Coffee: More Than Just a Drink, It’s a Surprising Source of Benefits for Your Home
Repel Insects and Bugs
Coffee contains diterpenes, chemical compounds that can be harmful to insects. Therefore, you can use coffee grounds to repel mosquitoes, fruit flies, beetles, and other bugs. Just sprinkle coffee grounds in areas where insects are commonly found or place a bowl of coffee grounds there, and the bugs and insects will not dare to come near.
You can also protect plants from insects by placing coffee grounds around the base of the plants. It will create an effective protective layer against insects.
Coffee can help flowers last longer
If you want your flowers to last longer, simply add a cup of diluted coffee to the water in the flower vase. This can enhance the vitality of the flowers as diluted coffee water contains nitrogen, magnesium, and potassium that help flowers last longer. Note that you should not add too concentrated coffee to the vase as it will make the water acidic and the flowers will wither faster.
Use coffee grounds to marinate meat
The acids in coffee can help tenderize meat and enhance its flavor. Simply rub coffee grounds evenly on the surface of the meat and marinate for about 2 hours before cooking. When cooked, the meat will have a crispy and flavorful crust that is incredibly delicious.
Eliminate odor from carpets and pet odor
Spread coffee grounds on the carpet and leave it overnight, then vacuum it up using a vacuum cleaner, and the odor on the carpet will disappear.
Use coffee grounds to scrub dirty pans
Coffee grounds can easily remove stubborn stains on pots and pans. Simply pour some coffee grounds onto a scrubbing pad and wash the pots and pans as usual, making sure to scrub thoroughly.
Use it to clean the fireplace
Cleaning the fireplace can be a hassle as you have to deal with scattered ashes, but with coffee grounds, the dust and smoke in the fireplace will not spread throughout the house, making cleaning the fireplace much easier.
Eliminate bad odors
Coffee with nitrogen helps eliminate bad odors. You can make small bags filled with coffee grounds and place them in your shoes, wardrobe, or gym clothes. You can also add some coffee grounds in the refrigerator to eliminate the odor from spoiled food and strong-smelling foods.
